CarbonLimited is undertaking research in to a number of key questions relating to the potential costs and benefits of a personal carbon trading (PCT) scheme.
Current research projects include:
Economic analysis
In partnership with Green Alliance this project has asessed:
• The potential role for a PCT scheme in reducing UK emissions
• The potential economic efficiency of a PCT scheme
• The interaction and strategic fit of a PCT scheme with other energy policies and trading schemes, proposed and current
• The nature of the market place required to support a PCT scheme, including market design and regulation.
Technology and privacy
Through consulting with IT providers and technology experts this project is exploring how a PCT scheme could operate in practice.
The equity and public acceptability of personal carbon trading
This project looks at the likely distributional impacts of a PCT scheme, as well as public attitudes and how fair and acceptable PCT is seen to be.
Transport
Led by transport expert David Quarmby OBE this project is assessing the significance of PCT to the transport sector as well as the likely behavioural responses and personal transport decisions that may result from a PCT scheme.
CarbonDAQII
The first CarbonDAQ was launched in October 2006 as the first online demonstration of the concept of personal carbon trading. Building on lessons and feedback from this we are developed a new CarbonDAQ to be more sophisticated and to enable users to trial online trading. The new CarbonDAQ is currently undergoing the final phases of development and will be available shortly.
