Rod Lightning

Rod Lightning

Rod is the very proud owner of a second-hand, but mint-condition Chevrolet Corvette. The hubcaps gleam, the red leather upholstery is spotless, and the bodywork’s lovely.

When things are quiet at work (he’s an estate agent in Liverpool), he daydreams about belting along the coast road, roof down, music up, with a gorgeous blond beside him, though the truth is he’s not had as much luck with the ladies recently.

He makes the three mile journey from home to work in the Chevy, and uses a company car to take clients for viewings. His house doesn’t get quite the same kind of love and attention as the car. Having moved out of home six months ago, Rod now lives in a small studio flat in a Victorian conversion. The windows are draughty so he tends to crank the heating up in winter.

Rod’s not much of a chef, often collecting takeaway on the way home or slamming a pizza in the microwave. His collection of takeaway menus is a real party piece. Not only does he get dozens of them through the letterbox, he also gets a new one with every takeaway. There are literally thousands of them. Talking of parties, one of his mates got engaged last year and the stag do is the king of all stags – four days in Hong Kong next summer – wow – that beats off the competition.
